At Kids on First, we believe that baseball is more than just a game — it’s a powerful tool for personal growth, education, and opportunity. Founded with the mission of creating accessible baseball programs for underserved youth, Kids on First is dedicated to empowering the next generation of athletes in the Richmond area, both on and off the field.

Who We Are

Kids on First is a community-based, nonprofit organization committed to providing high-quality baseball programming to children who may not otherwise have access. Our focus is on making the game inclusive, affordable, and a catalyst for greater opportunity.

We are a team of coaches, mentors, parents, community leaders, and volunteers who share a passion for youth development and believe every child deserves a chance to participate, compete, and excel — no matter their background or zip code.

What We Provide

Through the generous support of our partners and donors, Kids on First offers a wide range of resources to young athletes, including:

• Equipment: We supply gloves, bats, helmets, and other essential gear so no child is left on the sidelines due to lack of resources.

• Coaching: Our experienced volunteer coaches focus not only on teaching the fundamentals of baseball but also on building character, discipline, leadership, and teamwork.

• Uniforms: We provide full uniforms so every child can step onto the field with pride and confidence.

• Transportation: We help ensure transportation isn’t a barrier by offering travel assistance to practices, games, and tournaments.

• Mentorship & Support: Beyond the field, we are committed to mentoring young athletes in life skills, educational achievement, and personal development.

We aim to eliminate barriers, nurture talent, and create pathways for success — both athletically and academically — for youth from underserved communities.

• Volunteer Coaches and Mentors — Giving their time and expertise to develop not only athletes but well-rounded young people.

• The Players Alliance, MLB, & Richmond Flying Squirrels — They provide donations, grants and equipment for us to play the game.
